The architects of the timeof Louis XIV, at any rate the successful ones, were closely connected ;they had behind them and around them, in the building officials andcontractors in the Royal employment, a solid phalanx of kinsmen andconnections which enabled them to take up a position in business notwholly dissimilar to that which had been so grossly eibused by the Pl.
