Botulinum toxin, computer model. This nerve toxin is commonly known as Botox and Dysport. It is a biological product derived from the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is used to treat various conditions of muscle overaction, such as squints (strabismus), by injection directly into the affected muscle. It is also used in cosmetic procedures, where its muscle paralysing effect is used to improved facial muscle tension.
