Amlwch Port was enlarged & developed from the late 1700s to process & export copper & other minerals from the Parys Mountain mines seen to rear. By 1816 c. 40 vessels could shelter within the port & a town of some 5000 souls had grown up from a small fishing hamlet. Watch House & pier with ore storage bins to rear along harbour on L. Imports included scrap iron for use in yellow ochre production & tobacco leaf to make snuff & smoking mixtures. As the copper mines declined shipbuilding took over.
