I I ] This street was laid out and given to the town by Isaiah Thomas. Thefollowing memorandum was found in one of his almanacs: , 6. Finished work on the ne\\- street. The Selectmen came andsurveyed it and laid it out in form. The Eight Infantry company, un-der arms, commanded by (.apt. Klagg, marched through it, halted onthe bridge, and discharged three vollies. The gentlemen of the streetprepared a large tub and two pails full of excellent piiuih, and the Se-lectmen, at the request of those present, and in conformity to their ov\ nproposal, named the street Thomas street. The Infantry company hadas much punch as they chose to drink, and all jireseiit. Three cheerswere given, and the company marched off 679 J829.
