Orange lichen spots ancient steps leading up to the rustic early 16th century village church of Sant Pere del Serrat at El Serrat in the Ordino Valley, Andorra. The rectangular interior has a wooden gallery and a late 1500s or early 1600s painted altarpiece dedicated to St Peter.
El Serrat, Ordino Valley, Andorra: ancient steps spotted with orange lichen lead up the round-arched doorway, surmounted by a plain whitewashed cross, in the rendered rubble west front of the rustic village church of Sant Pere del Serrat. The church was built in the late 1500s to a rectangular plan. Inside, it has a wooden gallery and a late 16th century or early 17th century painted altarpiece or retable dedicated to Saint Peter. The small village of El Serrat, in Ordino parish, lies at an altitude of 1,540 meters (5,100 ft) at the confluence of two rivers in the Catalan-speaking eastern Pyrenees. It is the sixth and last village on the 14-km road that leads from the town of Ordino to the popular ski resort of Ordino Arcalís. Above El Serrat, the outstanding natural beauty of the mountainous landscape is preserved by an official ban on all new housing development.
