Czechs Mark 20th Anniversary Of Velvet Revolution
PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC - NOVEMBER 17, 2009: Men wearing the uniforms of communist, Czechoslovak police marching in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution on November 17, 2009 in Prague, Czech Republic. The marchers were following the same route taken by student demonstrators in 1989 until a violent intervention by riot police in what was then communist Czechoslovakia. The event sparked a series of much larger protests and strikes that ended with the relinquishment of power by the communist authorities in December, 1989, paving the way for the democratic election of a post-communist government under the leadership of then President Vaclav Havel.
