Advert for Wellington's funeral. Advert for trains from Scotland, to London, England, for people to travel to the state funeral decreed by Queen Victoria for the Duke of Wellington. Arthur Wellesley (1769-1852), 1st Duke of Wellington, is most famous for commanding the Allied armies that defeated Napoleon's forces at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. Following his death, he lay in state for two days and was buried in St Paul's Cathedral on 18 November 1852. Before the funeral, over a million people lined the streets to pay their respects during a parade that lasted over four hours. Advert published in The Edinburgh Evening Courant newspaper.
