Arterial catheterisation. Surgeon in an intensive care unit preparing to insert a catheter into a patient's radial artery using an Arrow catheter insertion set. An arterial catheter, or arterial line (art-line, a-line), is a thin catheter inserted into an artery so that blood pressure can be monitored directly. It can also be used to obtain samples for arterial blood gas analysis.
