Feira da Ladra (Thieves’ Market) Lisbon, Portugal. Tuesday morning at the entrance to the open-air Thieves’ Market on Campo de Santa Clara in the Alfama District of the capital city. The two day a week market (Tuesday and Saturday) dates back to the 13th century and has been in its current location in Lisbon since 1903. The flea market called the Feira da Ladra, Ladra translates as woman thief, but it is believed that its name comes from Ladro or Portuguese for bug or a flea that is found in antiques. While the market, selling everything from used household items to strange antiques, is frequented by locals, it has become a major tourist attraction with many vendors setting up tables or just spreading out items for sale on a blanket on the sidewalk.
