Campi Flegrei, Pozzuoli, spring 1980, underwater surveys on the submerged ruins of the Portus Iulius. The port was built in 37 BC by Marco Vispanio Agrippa as a military and civilian structure. Portus Iulius was abandoned in the 4th century due to the progressive lowering of the coast line caused by bradyseism. The Roman port was rediscovered in 1956 thanks to aerial photos taken by the military pilot Raimondo Bucher. The area is still being studied and surveyed. Marble anchor recovered on Portus Iulius.
