In uniovular twins we may have one heartstronger than the other; the stronger heart ap-propriates more blood from the placenta, andthereby grows stronger at the expense of theweaker, which grows still weaker and atro-phies, causing a condition called acardia. Inuniovular twins it is absolutely essential that. the cord be tied at the birth of the first child,to save the second from bleeding to death. Loth children seemed to be in good condi-tion, but baby No. 2 was found to have ashort right thigh, so short in fact that theright knee appeared to articulate with theilium. The right leg was freely movable atthe knee joint. The left le«r and thigh appear-ed normal. There were no other deformitiesnoted. I exhibit to you a picture of (lie result of theX-ray examination, and you will note that thefemur on the right side is not present, and thatthe fibula is a very small affair a- comparedwith the left side. Baby No. 1 seemed to he inperfect developmental condition. Both wereimproving in weigh! when they left for an-other city when a month old. I have not heard from them and think I would have doneso had they not continued to improve. The causes of such deformities do not seem tobe known, and if the child lives to maturitythe application of an artificial limb will behis
