The next number was the stirring sextettefrom Lucia de Lammermoor, witli Englishwords, and arranged so simi)ly and yet withsuch fine strength that it made a particularlyhappy number. It was unfortunate that earlyin the evening the arrangement of the scener}-and the depth of the stage had prevented thefull flow of choral tone from reaching theaudience. At this part of the program, how-ever, this defect was corrected, and the greatimprovement in the singing was quickly very sw^eet melody of plantation love, embody-ing the finest sentiment and affection, Vira,was then given. This was followed by a hu-morous selection, called Pharisee and Sad-ucee. Mr. Mathieu showed the richness of hisbeautiful lyric voice in the next four numbers:I Love a
