THE IDEA 9 and Major Hetherington made the followingsuggestion :— It may be briefly described as a cross-countryArmoured Car of high offensive power. It consists essentially of a platform mounted onthree wheels, of which the front two are drivers andthe stern wheel for steering, armed with three turrets, each containing two 4-inch guns, propelled by an 800 Diesel Set, electric drive to the wheels beingemployed. The engines, as well as the guns and maga-zines, would be armoured, but not the purely structuralpart, which would be fairly proof against damage byshell fire if a good factor of safety were used and super-fluity of parts provided in the structure. The problem of design has been cursorily examinedby Air Department officers, and the following rough dataobtained :— Armament 3 twin 4-inch turrets with 300 roundsper gun. Horse Power 800, with 24 hours fuel, or more ifdesired. Total weight
