moved a forty-foot-long,186-ton phase-shifting transformer, by crawler, from a rail siding near Barry Plastics on Main Street in Macedon, NY to our Substation 124 off Harris Road in the Town of Penfield. This unit is identical to the transformer RG&E moved last month in the City of Rochester. It is the first of two phase-shifting transformers RG&E plans to install at the Penfield Substation as part of a major upgrade designed to help RG&E maintain the reliability of its electricity system in the area." Transformer specifications: 13 feet wide, 14 feet tall, 40 feet long, 186 tons, 115,000 volts The transformer will travel on a self-propelled crawler which has 96 wheels mounted on 12 axles that can turn independently of each other and maneuver in very tight spaces. The combined transformer/crawler stack weighs about 286 tons, or more than a half-million pounds."
