Fijian 'Cannibal Tom'. 80-year-old man on the Pacific island of Fiji, said to be the last practitioner of Fijian cannibalism. The Fijian islands were settled following long sea voyages, and cannibalism became part of the culture of the islands. The practice was phased out following the adoption of Christianity in the late 19th century. This image, dating from around 1905, is part of a stereoscope view published by US company Underwood and Underwood.
