Bartlett, Illinois, USA. A CN locomotive unit painted for the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway leading a Canadian National Railway freight train.

A CN heritage locomotive unit painted for the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway leading a Canadian National Railway freight train through northeastern Illinois on its journey to Canada. Heritage units are outfitted with special paint honoring former railroads that predated the parent railway who acquired them. In this case Canadian National acquired the EJ&E in 2013 and now honors that railroad with a select locomotive in the former line's distinctive orange paint. Two items of note in this image are the locomoitve is actually running on the former 'home' tracks of the EJ&E and the special worn decal at the front of the locomotive also honors the 25th anniversary of the former government owned Canadian National Railway becoming a public entity. The single-track mainline in view was trackage owned by the EJ&E that now supports a significant volume of rail freight traffic between US communities and Canada.
