The flagship, Minotaur, which the King first boarded, is the one represented to the left hand, with her hull half shrouded in the smoke of her guns; still farther to the left is the United States sloop-of-war Ticonderoga, beyond which is the city of Lisbon, rising far up the sides of the hill. The American frigate Franklin, with the stars and stripes at her masthead, is situated in the middle, just opposite the King's barge; to the right hand of which are Penelope and Bellerophon, both firing salutes. These two ships, as well as the Minotaur, were visited by his Majesty before he returned to land'. From "Illustrated London News", 1869.
