Millennium Bridge


The Gateshead Millennium Bridge designed by Wilkinson Eyre, opened on 17 September 2001. Rising 50m above the river level, it has a total length of 126m with a main span of 105m and is built of over 800 tonnes of steel, nicknamed the blinking eye after the way the whole bridge rotates to raise the walkway and allow shipping to pass.
