By simply causingthe cotton to lie in contact with said cyl-inder when rotating, with the points of theteeth forward, the lint will by its own elas-ticity enter the openings around the teethin a radial direction, toward the axis ofcylinder, and will be engaged and drawnout by said teeth, while the hard bodies—such as the seed and foreign matters—willnot be so engaged. The point of the toothis also arranged to protrude beyond tliecircumjacent parts to such a degree onlyas that by the rotation of the cylinder itmay ba thrust for a minute distance intothe outer adherent coating of the seed.
