A crossbow, German, 17th century. Heavy, iron prod with smith mark stamped into one side (hunting horn). Fastened to the tiller by cord, old hemp bowstring. Walnut tiller (worm damage). The end has a mounting socket. Bone quarrel channel with a horn quarrel retainer. The nut is made of bone and lashed in place with cord. Iron trigger mechanism on the side for release by a trip wire.
