London Bridge, Lake Havasu, Arizona. 1831
This London bridge was designed by Sir John Rennie and built in 1831 using granite stone brought from Dartmoor. It was built across the Thames in London to replace an older medieval one. However, in 1962 it was decided that a new bridge was needed to withstand the pressures of modern traffic and the Rennie bridge was put up for sale. It was bought by Robert McCulloch, founder of Havasu City in Arizona. The bridge was dismantled, stone by stone, transported to Arizona and reconstructed there in Havasu City where it now stands. The bridge was opened in 1971.
