1896 illustration: Niezguinek and the Crawfish

A man stands on a beach, his arms, legs and feet bare; he wears a pointed hat and leather armour on his upper body, and a skirt down to his knees. He is conversing (as one does) with a giant lobster or crayfish, and appears to be pointing with one hand to a sailing ship. This scene is from the story "Niezguinek and the Crawfish" illustrated in the early 189s by Emily J. Harding (1877--1902). The name Niezguinek means "Will not die". The border is available as a separate image (alamy code BYPBAT) at slightly higher resolution.
