Giant Manta Ray (Manta birostris) Frontal portrait of Giant Manta Ray filter feeding in the very strong marine acurrent. These huge animals (with a wingspan of up to 7 meters) staged an incredible ballet around me, slowly flapping their pectoral fins (their 'wings') with amazing elegance. Retrato frontal de una Manta Gigante (Manta birostris) mientras se alimenta. Estos imponentes animales, de envergaduras de hasta 7 metros, se alimentan exclusivamente filtrando plankton. Es mucho mas cómodo para las Mantas alimentarse cuando hay fuerte corriente, porque solo tienen que mantenerse estáticas y abrir la boca. En esta ocasión, la corriente era tan fuerte que me tuve que tumbar en el fondo, encajonado entre dos rocas. Estos magnificos animales nadan moviendo verticalmente sus aletas pectorales, despacio y sin hacer ruido alguno, y con su gran tamaño (7 metros de envergadura), formas redondeadas, y colores blanco y negro, parecen seres de otro planeta. Esta toma frontal me recuerda a un ovni. Waigeo, Raja Ampat, West Papua, Indonesia.
