The father was an- industrious farmer, and had large tractsof land, which were largely operated by his sons, while he devoted his timeto the work of the ministry as a preacher of the Baptist denomination, leav-g his home in order to pronoimce a wedding ceremony or perform the lastsad rites over the departed. His life was an honorable and helpful one andhe made many friends, who deeply mourned his loss when at the age of sixty.
