Ischaemic colitis. Light micrograph of a section through a colon (large intestine) affected by ischaemic colitis. Ischaemic colitis is inflammation (colitis) and damage of the large intestine resulting from a restricted blood supply. Causes of reduced blood flow may include changes in the circulation (such as low blood pressure), or local factors such as constriction of blood vessels or a blood clot (thrombosis).
