Spiral galaxy NGC 2841, composite image. This galaxy lies around 46 million light years from Earth in the constellation Ursa Major. NGC 2841 has a weakly active nucleus known as as a low ionisation nuclear emission-line region (LINER). LINERs are characterised by spectral emission lines from weakly ionised or neutral atoms. The data for this image was obtained by the Hubble Space Telescope, the Subaru Telescope of the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), and the Digitized Sky Survey.
