Bundles of smoked mussels and seaweed hanging from the front of an indoor market stall, Feria Municipal, Ancud, Chiloe, Chile

There are two covered markets, selling fresh food and handicrafts, in Ancud: the Mercado Municipal, at the junction of Arturo Prat and Libertad; and the Feria Municipal, at Arturo Prat and Pedro Montt. The Feria Municipal (Fair Municipal), temporarily housed in a green marquee, burnt down in February 2009. Dried seaweed, fish and shellfish, including dried mussels, seen here, feature prominently in Chilote cuisine.
