THE LONGEST WALL OF WISTERIA IN BRITAIN AT WICKHAM PLACE FARM,WITHAM,ESSEX
THE LONGEST WALL OF WISTERIA IN BRITAIN AT WICKHAM PLACE FARM,WITHAM,ESSEX AS IT COMES INTO FULL BLOOM ON MAY 2ND 2014 Britain's LONGEST Wisteria plant has burst into bloom one month early - as forecasters predict a fine and dry Bank Holiday weekend with temperatures up to 20C. The beautiful purple plant, which is an incredible 252ft long, has all fully blossomed thanks to the mild spring weather. Judith Wilson has spent the last 14 years training the vine to grow along the full length of the red-brick garden wall at Wickham Place Farm, near Witham in Essex. When she moved into the 18th Century house in 1987, with husband John, the two acre ornamental garden was overgrown and the wisteria was a tangled mound. In 1993 the couple decided to tend to the neglected wisteria and hacked it back with a chainsaw. The lilac vine grew 10 feet a year in each direction until it reached the ends of the 13ft high wall seven years ago.
