A significant French strong-box 1st half of the 18th century. Rectangular body of robust sheet iron with closely mounted heavy band fittings. The bands applied with globular rivets. Hinged lid, bronze key hole cover in the form of a lying cupid. On the front of the lid two movable handles. The interior with extremely intricate lock mechanism with 17 bolts (two screws missing). Solid central octagonal chaplet with elaborate ward. The original key with ring bow and rare star-shaped(!) blade.
