X-48C sub-scale research aircraft. Remotely operated X-48C Blended Wing Body aircraft in flight during one of its final test flights. This roughly triangular in shape sub-scale research aircraft is designed to fly like a much larger cargo or transport aircraft but could be 20 to 30 percent more efficient than conventional fuselage and wing designs. It is being developed in a partnership between NASA and The Boeing Company's Phantom Works research and technology division.
