Therefore, as soon as Constantius wasarrived in the island, Coel sent ambassadors to him withoffers of peace and submission, on condition that he shouldenjoy the kingdom of Britain, and pay no more than theusual tribute to Rome. Constantius agreed to this proposal,and after exchange of hostages, peace was confirmed be-tween them. The following month Coel was seized with asore sickness, of which he died within eight days. After hisdecease, Constantius was crowned, and married the daughterof Coel, whose name was Helena. She surpassed all theladies
