“A king by the name of Nandu, who killed a lot of tigers, came to this hill" says a Brahmi Tamil script at Edakkal shelter in Kerala, India. The carvings were rediscovered by Fred Fawcett in the 1890s. Fawcett initially unearthed a stone axe and then found the shelter during a hunting trip. The caves are now a popular tourist attraction.
