The ancient and medieval remains of Corfe Castle in Dorset on a hill behind houses

Corfe Castle was build by William the Conqueror in the 11th Century and sits behind the local village pub and buildings in the Spring sunshine. The first phase of the castle was one of the earliest in England to be built using stone when most of the other castles at that time were built using earth and timber. Corfe Castle then underwent major structural changes in the 12th and 13th centuries.
