Southport, Merseyside, UK. 18th Aug, 2017. Thousands of people attend a Labour rally as Jeremy Corbyn, supported by John Prescott address the crowds on Southport Beach. Jeremy's visit is part of a tour of key marginal seats and reflects the remarkable rise of Labour within the town in the last two years or so. In 2015, Labour's Parliamentary Candidate for Southport, Liz Savage, doubled the party's vote and then almost repeated the feat again this year when Labour came second for the first time since John Prescott stood here in 1966. The socialist was delayed getting to the beach but that did not dampen the spirits as a huge roar greeted him from a packed crowd, who were delighted that Corbyn had finally come to Southport. The campaign to bring Jeremy Corbyn was first started between Sefton MP Bill Esterson and former Southport MP Hopeful Liz Savage as a way of boosting an ever increasing Labour vote in the town.
