ARTERIAL ANGIOPLASTY, ILLUST.

Result of an angioplasty undertaken with the help of a balloon catheter after the placement of a stent. After the removal of the balloon catheter, the artery and the plaque of atheroma maintain their shape of balloon which enables the normal circulation of the blood again. The phenomenom of restenosis is avoided by the stent. Here, example of a coronary artery. See. images 0322007 and 0322407 for the rest of the angioplasty by balloon catheter and stent. This image is part of a series on vascular pathologies and its treatments (angioplasty, atherectomy). See. images 0322707 for a healthy artery, 0324207 and 0324107 for an artery obstructed by a plaque atheroma, 0324307 and 0324607 for a stenosed artery caused by a tumor ; images 0322507 and 0322407 for the angioplasty by balloon catheter, 0322007 and 0322207 for the placement of a stent, 0322607 for the Simpson atherotome in use and 0324007 for the rotablator.
