According to Her-rick (1918) it is probable that by these end organs relatively coarse pressuremay be discriminated and localized (exteroceptive function), and movementsof muscles and joints can be recognized (proprioceptive function). The axis of the corpuscle is occupied by a core of semifluid substancecontaining the termination of a nerve-fiber. The fiber loses its myelin sheathas it enters the core, through which it passes from end to end. Its terminalbranches end in irregular disks. Side branches are also given off within the core.
