St Edmund's Church, Southwold, Lowestoft, Suffolk, England,

A great C15th Perpendicular church of the Norfolk type, built in one piece c. 1450-1500. Continuous nave & chancel with a clerestory and much glass. North and south aisles with flushwork stepped buttresses between the windows. St Edmund's is famous for its flushwork: “knapped [usually knapped] & unknapped flints arranged in patterns, textures & designs.” West tower richly panelled in flint, with two-storey vaulted south porch at base. The original lead roof was replaced in 1948 (after bomb damage), and until to 2015 the church had a copper clad roof with an easily recognisable flèche (or spirelet). The copper degraded in reaction to salt in the sea air. During 2015 the entire church was reroofed in lead including the spirelet. The flèche was purely for display, and has never contained a bell. Statue of St Edmund on front of porch shows him bound to a tree prior to being killed by Vikings
