The plant is not particular as tosoil, but a moist strong soil, in a somewhat shady place, suits itbest. It is/easily increased by seeds, which, however, mustbe sown as soon as gathered, as not one in a hundred willgrow if kept over till the following spring. The whole secretof cultivating these fine old plants is to leave them alone ; infact, a root of it has been known to stand on the same placefor fifty years, tbe stem still bearing healthy blooms. Theflowers, when rubbed, yield^ a scent like Lemons. There are. The Fraxinella. about four known species ; but only two are met with ingeneral cultivation, F. Dictamnus (white) and the commonFraxinella (lilac).
