Ingeneral it may be said that when theinvestment represented is not over onehundred and fifty dollars the ready-made boat will be preferable to thebuilt-to-order kind—unless the pur-chaser already owns a suitable hull orengine, or both. A man of a mechanical turn of mindwho desires to devote his spare time dur-ing the winter to an interesting andmoney-saving pursuit can do no betterthan to build his own boat—providedhe has at his command a sufficientlylarge workshop and the few tools neces-sary.
