He then workedas a journeyman printer for a few yearsin Philadelphia, Lancaster, Harrisburgand Allentown, followed by a year spentin the same field at Olean, New York ;then, in 1875, he returned to Lebanonand pursued the same vocation here fora brief period after which he interruptedhis connection with the printing and pub-lishing trade by entering on a mercantilelife in Lebanon, and also in May, 1892, he became connected withthe Daily News, of Lebanon, as partowner and business manager. The pa-per had been founded in 1872, justtwenty years previously, by the SmithBrothers, and was the first daily issuedin Lebanon. The pur-chase of the publishing business in May,1892, was made by ihe late Joseph , Adam li. Schropp and Jacob , the last mentioned partner, aswell as the first, being now Adam B. Schropp being thus leftalone in the business, it was incorporatedas the Lebanon News Publishing Com-pany, on January 1, 1912, under the lawsof Pennsylvania, Mr. Schropp being thechief stockholder as aforesaid, and con-tinuing the publication of the two issuesof the paper in the interests of the Re-publican party, of which he is an ardentsupporter. In the year 190J, Mr. Schropp wasnominated by his party as treasurer ofLebanon county, and was elected in thefall by a handsome majority, being theyoungest county treasurer ever elected inLebanon county up to that time.
