A great number of horsemen, gallant figures insaddles richly embroidered with silver and gold, whosehorses heads were decorated with ribbons and flowers,whose flanks were covered with goat skins, rode outof the city to meet their Majesties. A blare oftrumpets, the booming of cannon, and the ringingof scores of church bells announced that the Imperialprocession was near the city. Presently it enteredunder the dilapidated brickwork of the Gaudalupe. d.^
