La Seu Vella, Lleida.
The old cathedral or Seu Vella is an architectural monument of the city of Lleida. Perched on a hill that bears his name, from which looms across the city, the river Segre and much of the irrigated area of Lleida. La Seu is part of a monumental complex built also by the Suda or royal castle and military fortifications around them. The cathedral is located in the historic center of town, and is considered a Romanesque building, although it has elements of Gothic architecture and some Renaissance additions. Especially emphasizes the sculptural work of the doors of the Annunciation, the Portal Mayor and the Fillols Gate, considered by historians as a paradigmatic example of the so-called School of Lleida. Responsible Peter Coma 1193, the first stone of the temple was installed on 22 July 1203, being consecrated in 1278, although the work was not terminated until the construction of the dome and the covering ships in 1286. The set is also equipped with a cloister, atypically located at the foot of the temple, which was first built in the last third of the thirteenth century and was not finished until the next century. He then proceeded to finish the set, with the construction of the tower and door of the Apostles. La Seu often defined as a monumental Romanesque Gothic cathedral because of the persistence of forms of Romanesque art until the thirteenth century, although the difficulties of categorizing the whole, recently chosen to definir- as one of the most representative examples of Catalan architecture of the thirteenth century.
