M. Gauci,of England. (262). HEREFORD BULL SIR BARTLE FRERE (6682). Calved July 4, 1880; bred by Mr. T. J. Carwardine, Stockton-bury, Leominster, England; imported August, 1882, and still ownedby Mr. Adams Earl, of Shadeland Farm, La Fayette, Ind.; got bythe celebrated Lord Wilton (4740), dam Tiny (a Carwardine cowowned by Mr. Earl, and dam also of the well-known sire of prizestock Tom Clarks Anxiety 3d) by Longhorns (4711); 2d dam Rose-bud by De Cote (3060), etc. Sir Bartle Frere made a brilliantrecord at the English shows of 1881 (including first at the Royal),and was put in active service at Shadeland immediately after hisimportation. Three steers of his get won first, second, and thirdprizes in the ring for yearling grades at the American Fat-StockShow of 1885, and at the fairs of 1886 the bull, with several ofhis get from purebred cows, was a leading feature at prominentWestern shows.
