WWI. Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy. Monfalcone, WWI: 'Quota 85'. The deep trench in the rocks was reinforced with cement parapets by the Italian units reinforced after the conquest, who improved the already-existing Austrian trench in August 1916. The trench connected the Austrian strongholds at 'Quota 121' and 'Quota 85' ; the position went on resisting the Italian strong attacks again and again, for more than one year. Only 50 meters divided the Italian trenches from the Austrian trenches.
