Nearly 400 California Army National Guard Soldiers from the 578th Brigade Engineer Battalion were called up to support CAL FIRE on containment of the current wildfires Aug. 2, 2016. CAL FIRE trained the Soldiers on use of the shovel, Pulaski, McLeod, hoses, fire shelter and other fire fighting techniques centered around mopping up hot spots as a Type II Hand Crew member at Camp Roberts. Most of the troops have been on a fire line. After the training the troops will be transported to the Soberanes Fire on the Monterey Peninsula for up to 19 days. (Photos and Video by Master Sgt.
