Blue sky portrait USS Pampanito Submarine ticket booth, photographs US Navy sailors, Pier 45, Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco

The USS Pampanito is a Balao-class diesel-electric submarine, launched 12 July 1943 at the Portsmouth Yard, Kittery, Maine. Sinking six Japanese ships and damaging four others, the submarine completed six war patrols in the Pacific 1944-1945, serving as a Naval Reserve Training Ship 1960-1971. It is now a National Historic Landmark, San Francisco Maritime National Park Association memorial and museum ship moored at Pier 45, Fisherman's Wharf. A monochrome photograph on the side of the ticket booth shows Word War 2 smiling submariners and is entitled '80 men, 75 days, no shower, see why we're smiling'.
