The War in Denmark: the Little Belt and Shore of Jutland, viewed from the Island of Funen, 1864. 'Town of Fredericia; Austrian four-gun battery; probable termination of the war between Germany and Denmark may have taken from the subject of our present notice a good deal of its military importance. For some weeks after the fall of Düppel, and since the failure of the London Conference to put an end to the struggle, it was expected that the Austro-Prussian army, having already gained possession of the fortress of Fredericia, on the Little Belt, would attempt to cross that strait into the Island of Funen, or Fyen, where the remnant of the Danish army was the navigation of the Little Belt, and its hostile occupation by the Germans must effectually shut out the insular kingdom of Denmark from all access to its Continental provinces. But it has always seemed doubtful whether any object of German policy could be promoted by an attack upon Funen'. From "Illustrated London News", 1864.
