Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome, light micrograph


Light micrograph of a massive haemorrhage of the adrenal gland, affecting both the cortex and the medulla in a case of Waterhouse-Friderichsen syndrome. This syndrome is frequently caused by the bacterium Neisseria meningitidis, being considered the most severe form of meningococcal sepsis.
