View NW of S(L) & E(R) faces of Derwen Medieval (C15th) preaching cross in St Mary's churchyard, Denbighshire, Wales, UK. On S face, an eroded St Michael with wings, raised sword & scales of justice, on E face Coronation of the Virgin/Virgin and Child. Box-shaped head with four faces outlined with tracery & miniature pinacles. The chamfered shaft is decorated with bosses carved into flowers or faces, & rosettes at the top. The very top of the cross is missing, it is 2m high, including the original plinth & modern stepped base. The best preserved of the Vale of Clwyd group of churchyard crosses, it was used for preaching outdoor sermons by travelling friars etc. The church is redundant, in the care of the Friends of Friendless Churches, the cross in the care of Cadw.
