Statue of King João III (1521–57) at the courtyard of the University of Coimbra in Coimbra, Portugal. Was established in Lisbon in 1290, it went through a number of relocations until moving permanently to Coimbra in 1537 and located in Alcaçova Palace. The university is among the oldest universities in the world, the oldest in Portugal. UNESCO declared the university a World Heritage Site.
